weekend listening.

today is my first day 'blogging' from home. it's weird! so far today i slept in, watched the end of todays tour, ate breakfast in a park, pet some horses, and then...took a nap. but now it's time to get down to business and keep on packing up my stuff and crossing things off of my to-do list. thankfully while i'm doing these inane things, i'll be listening to this american life, and that always makes things better. here are four of my favorites. it was hard to pick just four! {click the title for a description of the episode and 'click here' for the sendspace download.}

if you're not familiar with this american life, then...well...i just don't know...you should be! it's one of my favorite things and the best way to spend noon to one on a sunday afternoon. but even if you're not around a radio from noon to one on a sunday you can listen to it whenever because they are so gracious as to offer it for free by download on their website. unfortunately there's no such thing as a free lunch and someone's got to pony up for that extra bandwidth, so they are asking for donations from listeners. i've been a loyal listener and downloader for quite a while so in addition to donating, tomorrow i'll post a few of my absolute favorite episodes of this american life to share with you guys. read ira's message and click here to donate.

It's been a year-and-a-half since we decided to offer our show as a free, weekly podcast, and that's been a crazy, whopping success. But because so many people—sometimes more than half a million—are downloading and streaming our show each week, the Internet bandwidth to distribute the program this way costs $152,000 per year. We want to keep offering This American Life for free. You want us to keep offering the show for free. Our home station, Chicago Public Radio, doesn't need to make money on our podcast, but they can't lose $152,000 a year on it, either....
Our dream is that we'll get you and most of our Internet listeners to chip in at the $1 or $5 level, and that'll cover everything. We'd love to take care of this expense with a flood of little donations from the people who actually listen to our show this way. And of course, if you feel that getting an hour of our show every week is worth more to you than a dollar a year, we'd be grateful for anything else you'd care to contribute. We really want to keep the podcast free.

testing, testing.

today is my last day of work! yay! hopefully it won't be too long before i can find some sort of supplementary income in savannah. right now i'm testing out having google ads on my page. they are right over there to the left and if you feel like clicking on them i think that i get like 1/1000 of a penny. web ads can be pretty annoying {and if they start to be about diet pills they are g-o-n-e} but on another website i visit i've been collecting these 'ringtone' ad images. they are very dada.

thrift store art.

so i just discovered thrift store art via stumble upon and it upset me to see that it hadn't been updated since october of 2006. i think that if it got going again and gained more participants and submissions it could become a really wonderful thing. the square america of paintings!

life is full of choices.

speaking of wonderful shoes, last night i missed out on winning these beauties to go see a pre-screening of step brothers with cris and my housemates. boy OH BOY, did i make the wrong choice. i could have had a lifetime of wonderful dark wash jean pairings, but instead i got two hours of guys punching each other and too many dirty words to count. sheesh.

with it being hot and humid and in the upper 90's all week i hadn't once thought about putting on tights, until now. i really love these chanel tights from a/w 08/09. like, really love.

i've had this dress for at least three years and never wore it once because it was too big up top. this weekend i was inspired by the previous post to finally alter it to fit me. i love my new old lady couch dress. it has pockets!
